How big can a picture be used at in conventional professional printing?

You could get out the calculator or use a program such as Photoshop, but do you really need such a feature-rich program?

The answer is WhatPicSize.

It’s a small Windows program that launches quickly to give you maximum picture size at adjustable dpi settings. Zoom to 100% to check for pixelation, and, if there is caption information stored in the IPTC standard field, WhatPicSize will show you that as well. Save non-jpeg files as RGB jpegs with one click.

WhatPicSize will open:

JPEG Bitmap -- RGB & CMYK (JPG;JPEG;JPE)
Jpeg2000 (JP2)
TIFF Bitmap (TIF;TIFF)
GIF (GIF)
PaintBrush (PCX)
Windows Bitmap (BMP)
Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
Targa Bitmap (TGA;TARGA;PIX)
Portable Pixmap, GreyMap, BitMap (PXM;PPM;PGM;PBM)
